Hyaejin Lee
Choreographer / Artistic Director of Bibim

Hyaejin Lee is a South Korean choreographer and performer based in Brussels and Korea. Her artistic work blends contemporary dance with influences from ballet, hip-hop, modern dance techniques, and Korean traditional movement. She is the founder and artistic director of Bibim, a performance company established in 2018 to explore socially engaged themes through body-led choreography and minimal staging.

Before her dance training, Hyaejin trained as a flutist in her youth, which continues to influence her sensitivity to rhythm and breath in movement.

Hyaejin began her formal training at Kyung Hee University, where she studied Arts Design and Contemporary Dance. She later deepened her choreographic research at SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance), working closely with internationally acclaimed artists and companies.

Her performance experience includes collaborations with Sasha Waltz & Guests, RootlessRoot,  Anton Lachky,  Jan Lauwers, Bodhi Project, and other European choreographers across Germany, Austria, Greece, Denmark, and other countries. These wide-ranging encounters shape her ability to navigate between physical precision and emotional depth — a signature of Bibim’s creations.

In her choreographic approach, Hyaejin uses movement as a language to investigate themes such as identity, conflict, memory, and the unseen structures of society. Her recent works include Bears Do Not Bark, The Bride, Travellers, and Narae — performed in Korea and Europe.

She continues to develop her practice through residencies, research labs, and interdisciplinary collaborations, building bridges between cultures and artistic languages through the body.
